Bár nem ez volt a szándékunk,
de ezúttal már a harmadik producert interjúvoltuk
meg az új Ursula 1000 mixlemez, az Ursadelica szereplõi
közül. Lehet hogy végigmegyünk az egész
albumon? Végülis miért ne, mindenesetre most
itt van egy kis kérdezz-felelek Ed Royallal, akinek két
éve alapított kiadóját, az Innvision-t
minden egyes új megjelenését követõen
egyre inkább a szívünkbe zárjuk. Funk-break
sújtásai igazán izléses, fantáziadús
és nagyon táncolható darabok egytõl-egyig...
Mana Mana: Úgy
látjuk Németországban mostanában nagy
áttöres van a funk-break fronton. Mi újság
felétek Ausztriaban?
Ed Royal: Igaz, a funk-break
jelen van Németorszagban, de még nem eléggé
elterjedt. A nagyobb dolgok Washingtonból jönnek. 2003-ban
megalapitottam a saját kiadómat, az Innvisiont és
a második kiadvánnyal, a Born To Funk-kal nagy szerencsém
volt, kisebbfajta csodaszámba ment az USA-ban. Az Eighteen
Street Lounge-tól Ursula 1000 beválogatta az új
mixlemezére, továbbá egy nagy hollywoodi kiadványra
is rákerül, ami február 2-án fog megjelenni
Amerikában. Ausztriában csak a bécsi helyszín
ment korábban, de mostanra megjelentek új producerek
és kiadók is, úgyhogy itt az idõ a változásra
és én remélem, hogy a bécsi srácok
is ki fognak adni ütõs anyagokat.
MM: Ismersz olyan új ausztriai
producert, akire érdemes odafigyelni?
ER: Van egy srác, a
Parov Stelar. Nagyon bejön nekünk a zenéje. Itt
is a régi a történettel találkozunk. Senki
sem akarta a számait kiadni, mondták neki, hogy nem
az övé a jövõ útja. És tessék,
itt vagyunk, a saját zenénket csináljuk. Parov
egy számunkat remixelte az új maxinkon Vamos Irmanos
címmel.
MM: Mi a véleményed
a magyar közönségrõl? Tetszett a ChaChaCha,
ahol a nyáron játszottál?
ER: Elõször is
köszönetet szeretnék mondani Dj Infra Ghandi-nak,
amiért lehetõvé tette, hogy játszhattam
Budapesten. Nagyon szeretem a magyar közönséget.
Nagyszerû volt a buli, értették amit játszottam.
A ChaChaCha az alúljáróban és a Margit-szigeten
is nagyon jó helyszín, menõ bulizós
emberekkel. Köszönet minden magyarnak. Tetszett minden
és remélem, mihamarabb ismét játszhatok
majd nálatok.
MM: Mennyit dobott a népszerûségeden,
hogy rákerültél az Ursula 1000 lemezre?
ER: Ez egy nagyon jó
dolog a kiadóm és a saját szempontomból,
sokan akik csak CD-t vásárolnak, megismerték
a nevemet. Nagyon pozitívan fogadtak az USA-ban. Ursula 1000,
azaz Alex egy remek arc és nagyszerû producer.
MM: Jól fogynak az Innvision
kiadványok? Mennyit adtál el eddig a maxikból?
ER: Hát, a vinyl eladások
nem nagyon mennek. Több funky break-et akarok kiadni. Vinylbõl
mindenesetre nem lehet nagy pénzt csinálni. Tudomásul
kell vennünk, hogy a mi zenénk underground zene és
csak DJ-k ismerik. Mellesleg túl sokan vesznek le zenét
az internetrõl és szerintem ez nem jó, a kisebb
kiadók halálát jelentheti.
MM: Mely országokban fogadták
különösen jól a lemezeidet és hová
jutottál el a megjelenéseid kapcsán?
ER: Ausztriában és
az USA-ban mennek a legjobban a lemezeim. Nézd meg a vinyl
listákat a www.soulseduction.com-on
...Most mi állunk az elsõ helyen és ezek csak
az elõzetes rendelések. Ez nagyszerû, de láthatod
mindössze 1000 darabot készítek és elsõk
vagyunk. Mennyit adhatnak el a többiek?
MM: Kiknek a zenéit remixelnéd
a nagy jazz és funk elõdök közul a legszívesebben?
ER: James Brown-t, az az én
zeném. Nagyon szeretem õt ... õaz , aki a funkot
megismertette a világgal a 70-es években.
MM: Játszol valamilyen hangszeren?
ER: Nem, nem játszom
semmin.
MM: Mennyi az élõ
zene és az elektronika aránya a zenéidben?
ER: Van némi hardverem,
de csak számítógépen csinálunk
zenét. Együtt dolgozom Sany-val, a ritmusszekcióssal,
Enne pedig dobol, ha szükség van rá. Ha kell
zenész a csapatba, akkor csak egy telefon és mar ott
is van. Van egy orgonistánk az All Good Funk Alliance remixen
és a Soulphonic Soundsytem remixen és néhány
másikon. Az összes többi szám a saját
munkánk.
MM: Sokan szeretik az Innvision
zenéjét Ausztriában?
ER: Nem tudnám pontosan
megmondani. Remek bulik vannak, de sok partink van Európa
szerte is. Bécsben évente csak 2 bulink van. Nem sok
klubban játszanak ilyen zenét.
MM: Van állandó helyed,
ahol játszol?
ER: Münchenben vagyok
rezidens DJ, a Funky Kitchen klubban Enne-vel együtt. A hely
most éppen zárva van, de májusban remélem
újra fog nyitni. Egy éjszakát játszom
havonta Augsburgban a Mahagonibar-ban és itt Innsbruckban,
a szülõvárosomban havonta a Blue Chip Club-ban
és a Jimmys nevû törzshelyemen. Az a legjobb hely
Innsbruckban. 8 éve játszom ott folyamatosan. Nagyon
köszi az interjút és üdv minden magyarnak.
Remélem ismét fogunk egy nagyot bulizni együtt...Ed

Mana Mana: We have realised that
there`s a breakthrough in Germany on the funk-break front, but what`s
up in Austria ?
Ed Royal: It´s right,
there is a funk-break scene in Germany but also a small one. The
bigger one comes from Washington D.C.. I etablished my label Innvision
Records in 2003 and I have many luck with my second production called
"born to funk". It was a litte wonder in the States and
we have a licensing by Ursula 1000 on Eightheen Street Lounge and
also for a big Hollywood Production who comes out on 10.2.06 in
America. In Austria there was only the Vienna scence, but now there
some new producers and labels and it´s time for a change and
I hope the Vienna guys release also good new stuff, then everyone
is good for the Austrian producers.
MM: Do you know of any new Austrian
producer, we should listen to?
ER: There is one also new
and really big producer called Parov Stelar and he have also his
one imprint. He have the same story. Nobody want to release his
tracks and they told him that this is not the future. But now, here
we are and we make our own thing. Parov remixed also a track on
our new release called "vamos irmanos"
MM: What do you think of the hungarian
audience? Did you like ChaChaCha where you played in the summer?
ER: At first I want to say
thank you to George "Dj Infrangadhi" that he maked it
possible that I can played some gigs in Budapest. Thank you George!
I like the Hungarian Audience so much. I have so great party´s
there and they unterstand what I played. Also the ChaChaCha in the
underground, or on the Margit-Island. Great locations and really
big partypeople. Thanks to all hungarian. I enjoyed it and I hope
I can play there again.
MM: How much boost did you get for
getting on Ursula 1000 mixalbum?
ER: I don´t know. It
was a great thing for me and my imprint and many people who bought
only CD know my name and I got a great standing in the States. Ursula
1000 (Alex) is a really nice guy and great producer.
MM: The Innvision publications selling
well? How many have you managed to sell from the maxis so far?
ER: Selling mmmmmhhhhhh, vinyl
selling is not really a great thing. I want to give the world more
funky breaks and that´s it. You don´t can make some
money with vinyl. We must know, that our music is an underground
music and only dj´s know it. Too many people get some sounds
from the internet and I think that´s not good and the death
of some small labels in the future.
MM: In what countries have your
records been received especially well and what countries have you
gotten to through your records?
ER: Austria and U.S.A. is
the best for me to sell my records. Look on the side www.soulseduction.com
and go to vinyl charts....we are one the first place and this only
with preorders. Great thing but now you see .....i make only 1000
pieces and we are first....how many sell the other labels?
MM: Whose works would you remix
from the great, old jazz and funk ancestors?
ER: James Brown....that´s
my thing, I like this guy so much and he is the man who give the
world the funk in the seventies.
MM: Do you play any musical instrument?
If so, what?
ER: No, I don´t play
on any instrument.
MM: What`s the proportion of live
versus electronic in your music?
ER: I have some hardwares
but we make so many only on pc. I am working also with my percussionplayer
Sany and Enne plays the drums if we need someone. If I think we
need a musican so I make a call and that´s it. I have an organplayer
on the remix for the All Good Funk Alliance and Soulphonic Soundsytem
remix and now more. All other tracks is our own thing.
MM: How many like the Innvision`s
music in Austria?
ER: I don´t can say
it. I have great partys but I play so many gigs in Europe. In Vienna
I play only two gigs in the year. They have not so many clubs with
these sound. I don´t know why but we got some great features
from some austrian people.
MM: Do you have a permanent place
to perform ?
ER: I´m resident dj
in Munich in the Funky Kitchen club with Enne. Now he is closed
and open again in may 2006 we hope. I have also one night in the
month in Augsburg in the Mahagonibar and here in Innsbruck in my
hometown I play every month in the Blue Chip Club and in my homebar
"jimmys". That´s the best scene location in Innsbruck
and I play there since eight years. Thanks so much for the interview
